I am trying to add a Facebook like system to my site but i am struggling

I have recently made a site and already had a face book page, i used this facebook site to get the code:

and followed everything. When i do exactly what it says, add the first box of code just below the tag and the apply the second box of code where i want the button to appear nothing comes up. There is no little box with a sad face in it that means it cant find what it is looking for, just nothing on the site where i have put it. For anyone wondering i am using HTML and writing my code in notepad. Thanks!
